Day 6. Annecy, France

Today was a cold blustery day in Annecy. We started the day with a walk thru some of the old parts of the city. We are saving our visit to the Chateau for tomorrow when it is forcast to be sunny and ten degrees warmer. Hopefully, our patience will pay off.
After splitting a pizza for lunch we walked to see the local casino. I was able to get in since I had my passport with me. The casino was mostly slot machines and poker machines. I was hoping to see James Bond playing Baccaret but no such luck. They did have a small area devoted to table games which included Poker, Roulette and blackjack . We stopped by a candy store that was a treat just to see. We found that they have made the most of the canals that run through the old part of the city. There are some picturesque views with the old buildings.
We were able to find a movie theatre so after a quick dinner we went to see "My Week with Marilyn" which was in English with French subtitles.
Hoping for sunnier warmer weather tomorrow.

Chris - Armed with literally six layers of shirts and coats I actually stayed pretty warm today in large part due to my new scarf I got in Paris. The scarf was a good buy as the weather has been a good 10 degrees colder than predicted since we've been in France. A high of 40 degrees is a LOT colder than 50! Add to that a very stiff wind and it was bitter today. Although it didn't end up raining the morning was very threatening and the afternoon very cloudy. We hear that we'll see the sun tomorrow :) I thought of my Dad this morning as I was wrapping my socked feet in plastic bags, then my shoes to keep the potential rain out. He always used everyday items as creative problem solvers. I love my Coach shoes because they have very flexible soles and are really comfortable, but then they have very thin soles and leak like a sieve when they get wet... Who Knew???? We shopped a little this morning walking along the more modern part of the city, leaving most of the charming Old Town for tomorrow when it's sunny. I wanted to walk along the lake today to the Casino to see if we could go to the Casino tonight and I could get a poker chip...but they didn't have Craps, so I didn't care about the Casino, other than it was attached to a big, pretty hotel. It was fun to go to the movie tonight, and since I'd seen the movie before I would sometimes try and identify the French words with the ones spoken, hoping to expand my French a little beyond food items. I loved the movie theater for it was very clean, of moderate size but very plush seats. However they had NO POPCORN or snack bar ... what????? They had two vending machines dispensing candy, pop or ice cream bars, they could use a microwave and some bags of popcorn, just a suggestion. It was great to experience a movie in France.
Tomorrow - Old Town and to the warmth of the sun!
